The second night of the double headline at Hokkai Kita-Yell features the NJPW World TV, IWGP Tag and IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championships on Sapporo’s icy grounds.
YOH will challenge IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion Hiromu Takahashi in the main event. As YOH belongs to the Dojo generation away from Hiromu, the two are very familiar with each other, and this familiarity is highlighted by a brutal chop-fest with his partner in a tag battle after YOH promptly returns from a field trip with SHO. Then Best of the Long Term. Final Super Junior December 2021 history.
However, YOH standing opposite Hiromu is different from the YOH the champion faced in the past. Changed by his recent partnership with Lio Rush, YOH is finally fighting a confident aggression unlike anything seen before, despite YOH’s first singles victory over a ticking time bomb at last year’s BOSJ tournament. That night, Hiromu was struggling with the aftereffects of a knee injury and was 100% going to Sapporo, but YOH knew he could beat Hiromu (he even had Ryusuke Taguchi’s latest strategy guide to do it) and came to Hiromu’s aid. . busy schedule.
Over less than a one month span, Hiromu will go from YOH, to battling GHC Junior Heavyweight Champion AMAKUSA at Keiji Muto’s retirement event in Tokyo Dome, to being a key figure in March 1’s All Star Jr. Festival 2023. With a lot weighing on the mind of the champion, the timing is arguably the best it could be for the CHAOS challenger- could he finally secure his first career singles gold?
